Tier 1 Curriculum & Instruction
At our school, Tier 1 instruction forms the foundation of daily learning for every student. We use high-quality, research-backed curricula to ensure all students build strong academic foundations, critical thinking skills, and a lifelong love of learning.
Mathematics (Grades K–5)
iReady Math: Our mathematics curriculum focuses on deep conceptual understanding, procedural fluency, and real-world problem-solving. IReady Math engages students through a collaborative, discussion-based approach where they explore multiple ways to solve a problem, explain their reasoning, and build confidence in their math skills.
English Language Arts & Literacy (Grades K–5)
Fishtank Literacy: Fishtank Learning serves as our core English Language Arts curriculum, designed to build background knowledge, vocabulary, and strong reading comprehension. Centered around high-quality, diverse literature and informational texts, Fishtank encourages students to think critically, analyze complex ideas, and articulate their thoughts through evidence-based speaking and writing.
Early Literacy & Phonics (Grades K–2)
Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach: In kindergarten through second grade, foundational reading skills are taught using the Orton-Gillingham approach. This explicit, structured, and multisensory method teaches students the relationships between letters and sounds through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning. By breaking down reading and spelling into clear patterns, OG ensures early readers develop strong decoding skills.
Advanced Word Study & Language Mechanics (Grades 3–5)
Spellography: As students transition into upper elementary, word study shifts to Spellography. This systematic word-study program goes beyond traditional spelling memorization. It teaches students how the English language works by exploring more advanced phonics patterns, syllable patterns, Greek and Latin roots, prefixes, and suffixes, helping them expand their spelling skills, vocabulary, and reading fluency.
