Hi there! My name is Nancy Leavitt and I've taught music at EKES since 1989. Though my job is only for two days out of the week, I remain at EKES because the children are wonderfully warm, happy, and kind individuals who are a joy to teach. They also have lots of musical talent! The teachers and parents are supportive and child-centered professionals and have helped me to put on such musicals as The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland, Cinderella, to name a few.

I grew up in Putnam, Connecticut and graduated from Notre Dame College with majors in Voice, Music Education and Drama. I've sung everything from Opera to Rock and Roll. Guess that's why I love singing and teaching and playing instruments all day long with the children. I've studied at the Hartt College of Music, University of Hartford, UNH and UMASS. My teaching career began in Connecticut and I have owned and operated my own licensed day care, taught in Montessori school, at South Road Kindergarten, and directed adult and children's choirs at Atkinson Congregational Church. While trying to be a bank teller, I realized I was spending more time talking to the children who came into the bank and decided maybe I should go back to teaching! Since then I've taught at Kensington Elementary School, Swasey in Brentwood, East Kingston and Newfields. I have been nominated to Who's Who Among American's Teachers by former EKES students.

I love to sing, play instruments with friends, do cross stitch, garden, go to the ocean, read, surf the net, do crossword puzzles, and shop with my Mom. My joys are my two sons, Christopher and Benjamin and all my pets!
