This fall of 2004 I will have been
working with students for 17 years. I majored in Communication Disorders at
University of New Hampshire. They have a clinic to train new SLPs. I worked with
children with articulation difficulties. Then I got my Master's Degree at
Northeastern University. While I was there I worked in a city hospital to help
adult stroke patients and an Elementary school in Cambridge to help children
with language delays. Since I graduated I have worked at Learning Skills
Academy, Seacoast Learning Collaborative and Exeter Hospital. This work included
helping children with Learning Disabilities, various syndromes, and voice and
fluency disorders. All places with wonderful children.
Then in 1992 I started at East Kingston Elementary School and have enjoyed every year with these terrific children. I began an afterschool soccer program. I did this for 5 years. It was a blast but then I switched to help coach my 5 year old son's team. What is great about my job is every day is different. I get to work with children from ages 3-12. Some days I play at the water table with Preschoolers and another day I help 5th graders with research and oral reports. The staff is very special here and support the students.
When I am not at EKES, go home to my fun family of 3 boys and a husband. We play outside, watch sports on TV and munch on some yummy food together. When it is quiet, I love to read books and get recharged for another busy day at EKES.
