1st Grade Teacher - Mrs. Sarah Oppenheimer
My name is Sarah Oppenheimer also known as Mrs. O. I have been teaching in East Kingston for many years, at first because I hated driving in the snow, and EKES is only a few miles from my house, but now that I've conquered snow I think its mainly because of the people - the kids, the staff and the parents. I like the small school community where you can know everyone and have the freedom to teach the curriculum intelligently and creatively. My degrees are in Music, Elementary Education and Special Education from Syracuse University, Northern Illinois University, with additional course work from the University of New Hampshire.
I spent most of my childhood in Maryland in the area between Baltimore and Washingston. I attended a small elementary school with less that 100 students.
I like to read, sing, draw, write, and solve math problems. I enjoy science, and history and recess. One of the best things about teaching second grade is that you get to do all those things and more! I love the way writing develops in second graders. I enjoy trying to figure out where each learner is coming from and how to help him or her to the next step. In my non-school life, I enjoy; being a mom, swimming, dance, yoga, music, waterskiing, snowskiing, my flower garden and lately photography!
