EKES Improvement Goals for the 2015-16 School Year

Literacy-

  • Continue with the implementation of the common core in the areas of reading and writing using Lucy Calkin’s grade level guides as the core instructional tool.
  • Support the work of the SAU literacy Committee.
  • Support teachers in the implementation of the Words Their Way program to better support word study.
  • Prepare students for the administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessment.

Mathematics-

  • Continue with the implementation of the mathematics Common Core. 
  • Support the adoption of EDM4, K-5.
  • Continue to expand teacher knowledge and access to Common Core mathematics supplemental resources.
  • Support the work of the SAU Math Committee.
  • Prepare students for the administration of the Smarter Balanced Assessment.

Other-

  • Continue to work with the special education and tutoring teams to make improvements in the oversight of our Response to Instruction (RTI) programming.
  • Support Partnership Advisory Council’s exploration of a preschool program to EKES.
  • Continue to support the UNH School/University Collaborative at EKES. We are hosting three graduate level interns in the upcoming school year.
  • Continue to work with the Wellness Committee to: Establish a school garden for each classroom; Expand and improve the quality of food offerings in the food service program.
  • Continue to work with the Emergency Management Committee to: Review, update and improve safety procedures as outlined in the recommendations generated by the physical security assessment conducted by the State's director of Homeland Security and Emergency Management. 
  • Continue work with the SAU to revise and implement: New teacher re-certification process; Teacher goal setting, observation and evaluation procedures.
