It is the Philosophy of the East Kingston School District to provide an
educational environment that treats each child as a total individual. We believe
that several areas of development must be nurtured to ensure maximum growth.
We feel the following areas are important and should be developed by the school:
Academic Growth
Our goal is to provide each child with academic instruction in Language Arts,
Mathematics, Social Studies, Health, and Science as well as other components of
the Curriculum deemed necessary and worthwhile.
We will provide, whenever possible, instruction at each child's individual level
of performance in each academic area.
Emotional Growth
A child's ability to progress academically is dependent on his own self-concept.
A child must feel good about himself and his/her place in the world in order to
approach his/her education in a positive way. Therefore, it is our belief that
we must make every effort to ensure proper growth by providing a stable,
consistent, and comfortable
atmosphere at school.
Growth in Social Values
We believe that social interactions are critical and that appropriate standards
of behavior be taught to each child. This area involves each child's sense of
responsibility to himself/herself and his/her community. Each child must learn
how he/she can best contribute to the good of his/her community.
Therefore, we believe that each child should be taught to take pride in all
aspects of his/her school life, which he/she will then carry to other social
situations.
Physical Growth
A child's total growth is not complete without sound physical development.
Therefore, proper standards of nutrition, adequate rest, and physical activity
will be encouraged at school. We strive to make physical education a part of our
Curriculum and each child should take part in these activities.
We believe that none of the above areas are totally separate and that each area
of growth effects all of the others. We also strongly believe that each child's
education doesn't occur only in the school setting but that all standards are
contributed to and furthered by the home. We believe that a strong relationship
be developed between the home and the school. Through our combined efforts, each
child will become educated and prepared for his future endeavors.
